Doonbeg Golf Links
Western Ireland:Doonbeg Golf Links
Doonbeg Golf Links is at the Trump Doonbeg resort in Doonbeg. The golf course itself is a relatively challenging links style layout with very punitive rough. It’s a modern golf course that was designed by Greg Norman in the early 2000’s. There are a couple of holes that are interesting on this golf course, but all in all, the golf course is quite out of the way- in a very sleepy area of Ireland. I do not consider it to be a destination in and of itself. Unless, of course, you are looking for a second course and decent place to stay when lining up a round at Lahinch, then this could be your place. Or if you are one of the jet set that can afford to fly in and out by helicopter which there seems to be a constant stream of on the weekend. The hotel is fairly nice, and the restaurant over the golf shop is a lot of fun and the food is very good. It seems to be somewhat of a local haunt for the colorful locals who are genuinely a lot of fun. The main club house is also nice. If you are choosing to stay here as a part of a buddy golf trip with 2 guys to a room be very careful on the room choice. The “double” rooms have 2 single beds that are about 4 inches apart, so it’s very much too close for comfort. The “Cottages” are a much better choice for a group of guys. 3 bedrooms a kitchen and a living room.
